Time-Series Emissions Analysis
Spatial Environmental Mapping
EPA MapEIre, EDGAR and PARIS inverse-model emissions · ICOS stations · Esri World Imagery New windowThree independent views of where Ireland’s emissions come from.
The plot uses every year of the layer; the year and period above only set the map.

MapEIre maps Ireland’s national emission inventory onto a 1 km grid, so each layer shows where one pollutant from one sector is emitted. It was produced for the EPA by Aarhus University and covers greenhouse gases, air pollutants, heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants.
- Provider
- EPA Ireland / Aarhus University
- Resolution
- 1 km × 1 km
- Projection
- TM65 Irish Grid (EPSG:29902)
- Coverage
- Irish Exclusive Economic Zone
- Years here
- 2015 and 2019
- Contents
- 33 pollutants in 7 groups, by NFR / CRF sector
- Units are shown only where the MapEIre report states them.
- Layers are drawn as images, so hovering shows no cell values; use the colour bar instead.
EDGAR, the Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research, is the European Commission’s bottom-up inventory. Emissions are calculated from activity statistics and emission factors for each country and sector, then spread over a 0.1° grid with spatial proxies.
- Release
- EDGAR Community GHG Database (EDGAR_2025_GHG)
- Provider
- European Commission JRC / IEA
- Resolution
- 0.1° × 0.1° (≈ 11 × 7 km)
- Coverage
- Republic of Ireland: cells whose centre lies inside the Natural Earth boundary
- Years
- 2000–2024, annual totals or monthly
- Contents
- CO₂, CH₄ and N₂O across 8 sectors
- Values are mass of each gas, not CO₂-equivalent.
- The spatial pattern is modelled from proxies; do not read single cells as facility data.
- Monthly values are annual totals split with sector profiles, not monthly observations.
- Recent years are EDGAR fast-track estimates.
Inverse model layers are top-down estimates from the Horizon Europe PARIS project. Three inversion systems (ELRIS, InTEM, RHIME) combine atmospheric measurements with transport models (FLEXPART, NAME) to correct a prior emission map, giving posterior CH₄ and N₂O fluxes.
- Dataset
- PARIS harmonised inverse modelling results for European non-CO₂ GHG emissions
- Provider
- Horizon Europe PARIS project, via ICOS Carbon Portal (CC BY 4.0)
- Resolution
- 0.352° × 0.234° (≈ 23 × 26 km, ≈ 600 km² per cell)
- Coverage
- Ireland plus a 20 km buffer
- Aggregation
- Day-weighted calendar-year mean of monthly fluxes
- Uncertainty
- 15.9th–84.1st percentiles (1σ-equivalent range)
- Cell-scale structure inside Ireland mostly reflects the prior, not the observations.
- The Ireland mask is the modellers’ country fraction (includes offshore cells), so totals reconcile with their published national figures.
- The dataset creators ask to be contacted before use in publications (A. Manning, Met Office; S. Henne, Empa).
Basemap: Esri World Imagery · stations: ICOS Ireland. The EPA data disclaimer on the main dashboard applies to all layers.

- Where it sits: National strategic plan affecting cross-cutting sectors.
- Status to date: Partially implemented; superseded by statutory CAPs.
- Note: attribution of emission change to any single policy is indicative and subject to uncertainty.
